May 5, 2010 : Live test of TweetWall Pro 04/05/10 at Betagroup meeting.

Thanks to the Betagroup organizers, we had the opportunity to try our product on stage yesterday during the startup conferences. We learned a lot about managing a Twitter Wall during live conferences and received great feedback afterwards.

For example, even if a wall is ready and working smoothly before an event starts doesn't mean that problems might not pop up out of nowhere. We learned the importance of being able to switch between 2 computers.

The wall we used had small font, making tweets hard to read. People started complaining about it, and some even starting to write uppercase tweets ;). Luckily we had another wall ready, with larger fonts.

On the other hand, the second wall was too intrusive and seemed to disturb the audience. From this we learned that we should have had other walls ready with larger fonts and less moving effects.

Some people started testing our moderation system. Unfortunately (and they knew it ;-) ), it wasn't ready yet, so we ended up having embarrassing hot pictures displayed on the screen.

On the buzz side, it was a huge success, 428 tweets were sent (by 120 people) during the event and the audience was enjoying it, tweeting about the wall but also about the conferences taking place at the same time. Some tweets were even sent from people outside the event, illustrating the profound impact of the buzz effect.

Lastly, we learned that the audience did seem to be distracted by the wall and the tweets on the screen. We didn't receive any feedback from the presenters, but we wonder: Did they feel a loss of focus from the audience? We'll try to get in touch with them. But obviously, another, less intrusive wall would have been better, and we apologize for that. It will definitely be better next time!
