  • The Open Championship July 2014

    July 17, 2014 : The 143rd Open officially started on 17th July at the Royal Liverpool Club, England. The World's best golfers convene to win the world famous Claret Jug Trophy. Like the golf their TweetWall use is world class!

    Did we say TweetWall? Maybe we should explain, there's not just one screen but over 400 around the complex! With a mixture of TweetWalls both inside and outside including full screen and Ticker Style, The Open sure are placing Social Media as a priority to support the world's most prestigious golfing event.

    The Open have certainly embraced the power of using Social Media at the event with Twitter birds along with their @The_Open handle on signage throughout the event and all over the home page of their website, which also hosts Live Coverage, News Bulletins and even a Social Hub.

    As a result we've seen nearly 12,500 Tweeters and over 23,000 Tweets so far and there's still 3 more days to go!

    Our TweetWall software enables them to pull in Tweets from the Twittersphere, even without the event hashtags) as well as Tweets from their Public Twitter Lists including many of the professional golfers giving them and Tweeters a vast array of interesting and timely content to build on the buzz onsite.

    They've had good use from our Announcement feature too - when we asked how everything was going, our client Huw Stark from c3ievents replied;

    "The Ticker has been running all morning to great affect thanks. Been putting out a weather warning because of the heat amongst the tweets along with spectator advice which is excellent!".

    We can't wait to see what happens over the next few days!
