  • Fondazione Florens - Biennial

November 30, 2012 : During the Biennial in Florence, the organizers wanted to include social networks to the event. They have installed a TweetWall inside the Palazzo Vecchio, the city's medieval town hall.

Alexandra Korey, Project Manager at the Fondazione Florens, was in charge of the TweetWall during this great event. She tells us more about her experience.

"Florens 2012 Biennial of cultural and environmental heritage was held in early November in Florence, Italy. It consisted of an international conference with over 350 speakers, keynote speeches by important professors, designers and environmentalists, a movie premiere by National Geographic, and art installations in some of Florence's most important public spaces. The contemporary artist Mimmo Paladino's installation of a monumental marble cross in Piazza Santa Croce attracted locals and tourists alike, along with the solemn display of crucifixes by Michelangelo, Donatello and Brunelleschi and an installation of centuries-old olive trees in Piazza Duomo, for a total public of about 200,000.

The Fondazione Florens used Tweet Wall Pro on the gigantic screens inside Palazzo Vecchio, Florence's medieval town hall, in the most important room in that building, the 16th-century hall frescoed by Giorgio Vasari, the Salone dei Cinquecento.

Presence on Twitter with the hashtag #florens2012 was important as it was followed by local and international journalists, as well as by the general public who used it to follow what was happening within the event. Over 500 different people contributed to the conversation on Twitter for a reach of over one million. Amongst the most frequent contributors were the members of TeamFlorens, an international team of bloggers that the Fondazione chose through a contest earlier this year. Hailing from as far as Australia and California, and teamed with more local bloggers from Rome and Florence, they tirelessly tweeted and reported on every aspect of Florens 2012.
